A combination bike ride and cultural experience, the Bikennale provides a perfect way to see the monumental sculptures which the Vancouver Biennale has installed throughout Vancouver. On a route that takes you from Vanier Park to Gastown, through Vancouver’s West End and along the Seawall around False Creek back to the seaside relaxation of Vanier Park, the Bikennale is a meandering ride which showcases the best of these Vancouver neighbourhoods. The full route with the long extension takes you to VanDusen Gardens, to Queen Elizabeth Park and back down to False Creek.

Anyone who rides this entire route will see several sides of Vancouver. Cultural, seaside and urban – all on one bike ride.
The Vancouver Great Ride is being organised in partnership with the Vancouver Biennale. The Biennale is a 21-month-long celebration and exhibition featuring some of the world’s most prominent sculptors. This bi-annual public art event features monumental public sculpture installations along the beaches, walkways and bike paths throughout Vancouver.
The 2009-2011 Vancouver Biennale has 32 sculpture pieces made by 29 artists from 13 countries. For a full list of the sculptures and the artists check out the Biennale website at www.vancouverbiennale.com.
One of the sculptures is in the world-famous VanDusen Botanical Garden.
VanDusen Botanical Garden is a spectacular 55-acre garden located in the heart of Vancouver at the corner of 37th and Oak Street. VanDusen provides an inspiring environment for visitors of all ages and interests. With its excellent collections and the beauty of their display, the Garden promotes knowledge and understanding of the world of plants and their fundamental importance to life.
The big event day for the Bikennale is on Sunday, October 4th.
This celebration of the route will also be a celebration of the city and culture with music, performers and an end-of-season Great Rides fiesta.
All registered riders on the Bikennale on Oct. 4th get free entry into VanDusen Garden as part of their registration.
